EXQUISITE GUT: COLLABORATIVE DRAWING
For this brief, as a class we all had to draw a connecting piece, which at the end would all join together to create one big piece.
IDEA GENERATION;
For research, I did mindless writing, a brainstorming technique done by writing words that come to mind. I did this based off of my Tactile Tentacular sculpture.
I then picked the words that stood out to me; flower, sparkle, portal, organic, shapes, plants, to continue to create my contribution to the collaborative piece of work.
For the drawing itself, I only had a vague idea of what I wanted to draw.
I decided to use pencil simply as an experiment as I do not often just use pencil to finish a piece, instead normally opting for something with colour.
I do like how the drawing turned out, however, and keeping the process simple allowed me to take my time and pay more attention to content and details. The pencil tones also make the piece look natural and soft, relating to the image of a 'plant person'.
This being said, when looking at the rest of the class' work, I realised how the lack of colour contrasted with the colours and textures used by my peers. I think of my piece was bolder, it would've been balanced with the others, although the black and white does offer a nice contrast with certain people's work.
As a whole, the non linear nature of this project made it so the drawings could fit together in many different ways and still look interesting. I think the different styles of people's work, as well as the different materials and textures made this even more prominent, as no two pieces were the same, even if certain people did more than one piece; they looked good spread through the piece, and displayed together as one whole part of the piece.
