Herbert Gallery, Coventry
The Turner Prize;
We went to see the Turner Prize contestants in Coventry, which was something entirely new to me. I had no idea what to expect, and going around this exhibition was not what I had in mind.
All the contestants used installations in their work, and the one that stood out to me the most was the Array Collective's. It consisted of an Irish pub that displayed leftist and liberal political posters to contrast the events happening in Ireland, and was so immersive and interesting as it took you out of one environment and put you in another.
(Some of these pictures were taken by Rowan because I did not take enough to showcase the trip well enough).
These are some pictures from the other exhibition in the gallery, "HYPER-POSSIBLE".
The themes and materials in these artworks were inspiring to me, especially the sculpture to the right (->) by Luke Routledge, called Strange Matter. The little details that make up this piece - the moving eyes, the bottoms of the characters, the floor, the faces - all make this installation comical and fun to look at, which is a theme I hope to take into my own art.
As well as this, there was drawings with lights framing them, photographs with writing on, and writing on LSD tabs etc. which taught me a lot about the lengths of the materials you can use are.
