Betsy Bradley @ IKON
Betsy Bradley: Chasing Rainbows

This exhibition was occupied with paintings and sculptures that focused on translusence, softness and mark-making. The works are liberating and light. Her inspirations are 'miraculous everyday phenomina', for example the colours of a billboard or light pollution in the night sky. Bradley welcomes chance to free her artistic process, and the viewer's experience.

I really liked this exhibition becuase of its feeling of lightness and softness. It felt inviting and welcoming. It was grounding and interesting to look at and get up close to, especially due to her process of mark-making and chance-taking.

My favourite piece in this exhibition was called Boogie Wall, which made a partition in the gallery space, and was made of a voile fabric, creating a translucent base that could be seen through. It was double sided meaning you could see the other side of it through the side you were closest to. This was my favourite because not only did it feel like it was creating a world of its own, but the colours felt inviting and complimented each other.

All of the works, however, were notable. Her sculptural pieces were particularly interesting, and worked well in splitting up the 2-dimensional canvases hung on the walls. "Canopy' was a piece of translucent fabric taking up the roof of one of the rooms in the gallery, and felt like it gave you an escape, transporting you out of the gallery, maybe on holiday.
